What is "Meditation"?
Meditation is calming the mind, relaxing the body and spirit and listening to our inner guidance.
Meditation brings us back to our inner self and centers our energy. The buzz of our daily routines and the mental chatter as we go about our day drowns the soft whisper of our inner voice.
Why is meditation important?
Mediation helps center and ground our energy. Meditating on a regular basis sets the tone for the day and helps us remain in a calmer state when faced with the world's chatter and external influences. It clears our mind to be able to concentrate, focus, and retain information better. It centers our body and spirit, reminding us to start each and every day with a peaceful approach to our busy and rushed lives.
How often should I meditate?
Ideally, it is beneficial to meditate daily. Life gets very busy and it sometimes seems impossible to find the time to meditate. It's OK! At first, it may seem difficult to get started with a meditation routine. Setting aside even as few as 5 minutes in your day, will yield amazing results. With practice, it will become easier to create a routine for daily meditation. It's OK, if you are unable to meditate on a regular basis.
Simple steps to meditating:
- Find a quiet place free from interruptions.
- Sit comfortably on a chair/mat/or floor.
- Close your eyes. Inhale deeply for 3 seconds. Exhale fully for 3 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
- Allow any thoughts or sounds that come into your mind to pass through. Acknowledge them and release them gently back into the Universe. Do not try to block or prevent these thoughts. They are just visitors.
- Focus on the rhythm of your breathing. Feel your heart regulating to a rhythmic pace. You'll notice, the mind's chatter quieting as you focus your attention on your breathing.
- Ground: Visualize your feet as tree roots. See them branch down into the Earth's core. Feel the warm energy of Mother Earth's core gently going up your "roots", all the way from your feet filling every part of your body until you reach the crown of your head.
- Feel with each inhale, the warm and earthy energy filling your whole body.
- Center: Visualize the vast expanse of outer space. See the stars and planets high above as far as the eye can see. Visualize a beautiful golden light like a shooting star coming from the most divine of stars. See this beautiful ray of light coming towards you. Allow it to enter your crown with each inhale and fill your whole body all the way down tot your feet. Feel this divine light embracing your entire being with each inhale.
- Sit in this divine energy feeling the grounding heartbeat of Mother Earth and the centering divine light of the Universe flow through you with each breath.
